Why it's "MAKING HONEY"

Some of my best memories from this summer spent with
our daughters was when they were exploring, inventing,
and creating... and I was there, not micro-managing
them! There is a great article about not over-managing
your kids' art.

Now while getting my Art classroom ready for the school
year (I teach Art to grades 2-12), I am thinking back to our
summer moments of "making honey", those sweet (and
sometimes sticky, messy) moments of kid-driven
brilliance. I thought I'd share some of these creations
to help other parents with ideas, but also as
a way to keep making more memories with A & J.
Childhood is so short. Our time together is so short.
So let's make honey!

  1. Hi,
Good to hear from you. Great thoughts and ideas for home or school. Love the drawings and the fairy village. I'll pass these along to my grad student art teacher wanna bes. Reminds me of the story by Howard Ikemoto: When my daughter was about seven years old, she asked me one day what I did at work. I told her I worked at the college - that my job was to teach people how to draw. She stared back at me, incredulous, and said, "You mean they forget?" Best for the new school year. Mary Kay

  3. Hi,

For artful coloring, your daughters could try the online coloring site my wife and I just launched:

    scrapcoloring.com

It's very different from other coloring sites: kids can use colorful patterns and gradients to color original drawings.

What I'd like to do next is to allow them to create their own coloring pages.

What do you think of it?
